Bumble Bees & Mary Kay

IMG_1063“Aerodynamically, the bumble bee shouldn’t be able to fly, but the bumble bee doesn’t know it so it goes on flying anyway.”  Mary Kay Ash

I’ve noticed lately that we seem to have a lot of bumble bees around. This is the first year that I’ve had lavender growing outside since we moved to Colorado and I think that’s what’s attracting them. My lavender plant has done really well over the summer and not only is it blooming, but it also smells wonderful!

I took a couple of pictures of the bumble bees and was looking for a poem about them when I ran into some quotes by Mary Kay Ash, one of which is about bumble bees. As frequently happens when I’m looking up anything at all, I got sidetracked. I started reading about Mary Kay and was amazed at what her life was like and the obstacles that she overcame to become the woman she was.

IMG_1060For those of you who don’t know her, Mary Kay is the woman who started the Mary Kay Cosmetics company in 1963 at the age of 45. Today that wouldn’t be that unusual of an accomplishment, but it was huge in the 1960’s. She was hard working and a great business woman.

Besides her business sense, Mary Kay was also very inspirational. She believed in encouraging others and rewarding hard workers. Her employees were able to earn jewelry, trips, and pink cars. I remember seeing those distinct pink cars driving around and knew that the owner was a Mary Kay salesperson.

There are quite a few quotes that are attributed to Mary Kay and I want to share them with you. I think we can all learn something from them.

“Pretend that every single person you meet has a sign around his or her neck that says, “Make me feel important.” Not only will you succeed in sales, you will succeed in life.”

“The greatest pollution problem we face today is negativity.”

“There are four kinds of people in this world:

  • those who make things happen
  • those who watch things happen
  • those who wonder what happened
  • those who don’t know that anything happened!

“If you think you can, you can. If you think you can’t, you’re right.”

“Most people live and die with their music still unplayed. They never dare to try.”

“My goal in life is to live my life in such a way that when I die, someone can say, she cared.”

“While clothes may not make the woman, they certainly have a strong effect on her self-confidence, which, I believe, does make the woman.”

“Don’t limit yourself. Many people limit themselves to what they think they can do. You can go as far as your mind lets you. What you believe, remember, you can achieve.”

“For every failure, there’s an alternative course of action. You just have to find it. When you come to a roadblock, take a detour.”

“There is a way; Up, Around, Over or Through.”

“It is far better to be exhausted from success than to be rested from failure.”

“Give yourself something to work toward – constantly.”

“God does not ask your ability Or you inability. He asks only your availability.”

“A good goal is like a strenuous exercise – it makes you stretch.”

“Do not desire to fit in. Desire to lead.”

“The speed of the leader is the speed of gang.”

“There are two things people want more than sex & money…recognition and praise.”

“A mediocre idea that generates enthusiasm will go further than a great idea that inspires no one.”

Enjoy life!
