Jack and I had a lot to do today so we were up and out of the house by 5:30 this morning. By 9:00 we had gotten several of our errands finished and needed to wait until 10 before completing our tasks. It was 40 degrees outside, but the sun was shining and it was nice out. We decided that we wanted to go somewhere that we could sit outside and we found a restaurant in Colorado Springs that we had driven past many times, but had never stopped at. It was open for breakfast, so that was our pick today.
Mountain Shadows Restaurant is located at 2223 West Colorado Ave in Colorado Springs. There’s indoor and outdoor seating and since it was nice out, we chose to sit outside. When we got there, we were the only ones outside, but there were quite a few customers inside. Within the hour, the outside had filled up. We were surprised at how many people were there for breakfast on a Monday morning in March. The other customers seemed like a nice mix of regulars and newbies, but everyone appeared to be having a nice experience.
The menu had a nice variety of meal choices and you can get breakfast or lunch any time they’re open. Jack breakfast came with an omelet with sausage gravy on it and a pancake. I ordered a hamburger with mushrooms, onion, and Swiss cheese and french fries as my side.
Our waitress, Tara (in purple), was very friendly and a great waitress. She’s very attentive to what we needed and filled my iced tea and Jack’s coffee before they ran out. Anyone who knows me knows that keeping my beverage glass filled is no easy task with as much liquid as I drink, so I was duly impressed! During our conversations she told us that she and her father had started the restaurant in 1990 and they’ve been open since. Tara is outgoing and makes you feel extremely welcome to be there. She had nice music playing on the patio and it was a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. It felt like we were at someone’s house, just having a good time visiting them.
When our meals came we were surprised at how much food there was. Honestly, we could have fed four people (or three really hungry people) instead of just the two of us. Not only were the portions very large, but the food was really good! We managed to eat most of it, although we probably should have stopped sooner.
We stayed for awhile after eating and never felt pressured to vacate our table. It was just such a nice day and so comfortable there that we wanted to stay longer and enjoy it. We will definitely be going back to Mountain Shadows Restaurant again and suggest that you try it if you haven’t already.
